Colleen Parsons MSc., BSc. (Nutr), BPE
Colleen Parsons is the Director of the Health and Fitness Programs at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Kinesiology. She holds undergraduate degrees in Physical Education and Foods and Nutrition from the University of Alberta and a graduate degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary. Colleen is a Certified Exercise Physiologist and Nutritionist working mostly with endurance athletes of all levels. In her private business, CGP Consulting, she has worked with a variety of corporate and sport groups and individuals striving to improve their performances through better training and nutrition.
Colleen has been participating in running and triathlon for more than 20yrs and has completed multiple marathons, and Ironman competitions. She has discovered yoga and has incorporated it into her weekly routine – finding it core to keeping her balanced. She is keenly interested in health and fitness as a way of life. Helping people to find easy ways to incorporate both of these into their daily lives is both her motivation and her passion.
Dr. Tish Doyle-Baker DrPH Health Education, Clinical Exercise Physiologist
Dr. Doyle-Baker is a clinical exercise physiologist and associate professor at the University of Calgary, in the Faculty of Kinesiology. She is also a public speaker, writer, researcher, soccer coach, and mother of three boys. Dr. Doyle-Baker has worked with many national teams, consulted with fitness video producers, and recreational organizations.
Her research involves energy expenditure and exercise specific to population health outcomes which is symbolized through an APPLE. This identifies her group in two ways: the message that an apple a day keeps the doctor away and also because it is an acronym for the focus of her research. The acronym is: Applied Physiology and Prevention through Lifestyle and Exercise. Presently she has research ongoing in: 1) childhood obesity biomarkers based on exercise intervention and 2) urban form and the impact on energy expenditure.
Dr. Doyle-Baker is known for her passionate and engaging style of speaking. She is very capable of translating research into practical health outcomes. Every session is tailored to the specific audience.
Dr. Reed Ferber Ph. D., CAT (C0, ATC)
Dr. Ferber is an assistant professor in both the faculty of Kinesiology and the faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary. He is also the Director of the Running Injury Clinic in Calgary. This clinic is Canada’s only clinic devoted specifically to running injury and is located at the University of Calgary. The clinic, which deals with running and walking pain from a biomechanical perspective, reports that 90 per cent of patients report being pain-free in four to six weeks.
The goal of the Clinic is to educate and develop injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for runners and walkers of all ages through world-class research and clinical practice. The Clinic serves as a public facility for the clinical assessment of musculoskeletal injuries for walkers and runners as well as a dynamic research laboratory.
Dr Ferber has published many manuscripts and articles relating to the biomechanics of walking, running and injury prevention. He has addressed various groups as a keynote speaker across Canada.
Leah Bell, BSc. Kin, Certified Exercise Physiologist
Leah has been working in Health and Fitness for over 5 years and has gained valuable experience working with people of all ages from young children to senior citizens. Leah currently works as the Coordinator of the Calgary Be Fit For Life Centre - a non-profit Active Living Agency dedicated to the promotion of Active Living. Leah is passionately involved in the promotion of health and wellness to the surrounding community and has a deep dedication to the future health of people today. Leah also consults privately as a Personal Trainer and as a Kinesiologist at a Calgary Physiotherapy clinic. Leah was privledged and honoured to be an ambassador for Lululemon during the 2007/2008 year in which Lululemon recognized her as a Personal Trainer and Certified Exercise Physiologist.

Ashley Jensen, BKin, CSEP-CEP, NCCP
Ashley Jensen has a Bachelors of Kinesiology degree majoring in Mind Sciences from the University of Calgary and is a Certified Exercise Physiologist with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.
She currently works at the University of Calgary with the Be Fit For Life etwork promoting Active Living and helping Albertans of all ages adopt healthy active lifestyles. Ashley is also a lead trainer for TrymGym a University of Calgary weight loss and lifestyle program, which encompasses physical activity, behavior change and nutrition. As science and research continue to drive the field of health and wellness Ashley is pleased to have the opportunity to work as the exercise physiologist doing fitness field tests for a study on the Exercise Capacity and Physical Fitness of Pediatric Kidney Transplant Patients taking place at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Ashley has delivered many fitness and lifestyle sessions in schools as well as programs such as TeenLeap and Jumpstart to children and youth. She has worked in various realms with adults implementing training, testing and education on lifestyle management. Ashley is also an exercise trainer with the University of Calgary Honolulu Marathon program. She believes that by investing in your health and wellness you will truly add to your quality of life. Ashley can often be found reiterating what Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod used to preach in the 80’s – “Keep Fit and Have Fun”.
In her spare time Ashley competes in ½ marathons, marathons, teaches skating to children and adults, participates in yoga and enjoys shopping!
