History

Campus Recreation was established in 1975 through a student referendum that supported its initiation and associated compulsory student fees. Campus Recreation operates under the governance of a constitution approved by he University of Calgary Board of Governors.

The constitution provides for the annual establishment of the Campus Recreation Committee, which is composed of representatives from the university community. These include 5 undergraduate students, one representative from each of the following: graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni and the Faculty of Kinesiology and the Director of Campus Recreation. The committee responsibilities include annually reviewing and approving compulsory student and membership fee schedules and the annual operating budget. The committee reviews the activities of Campus Recreation and provides advice and feedback to the Director.

In 2005, Campus Recreation became part of the University of Calgary Health Recreation Centre - the largest multi-sport recreation facility in Calgary - which includes:

  • Fitness Centre
  • Racquet Centre
  • Aquatic Centre
  • Gymnasiums
  • Gymnastics Centre
